Governing Body: Roles and Responsibilities
The Governing Body, represented by the Senior Management Team, plays a vital strategic role in the leadership and direction of the school. Acting as a critical friend, the Governing Body provides constructive challenge and support while remaining fully accountable for its decisions and actions.
Its primary responsibilities include setting the school’s aims and objectives, and monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and strategic priorities. The Governing Body operates through clearly defined structures within the school, enabling effective evaluation of organizational performance, educational provision, and operational effectiveness.
By setting high expectations, the Governing Body inspires and motivates both staff and students to uphold the highest standards of ethics, behavior, and professional conduct. These expectations underpin a positive school culture focused on continuous improvement and excellence.
The Governing Body also oversees key strategic decisions to ensure that the school’s vision, mission, and policies are clearly defined, well communicated, and consistently understood by staff, parents, and students. Through this oversight, it promotes the well‑being, effectiveness, and cohesion of the school community, while supporting high‑quality teaching and learning in alignment with the school’s mission.
