Learning Diversity Policy

Philosophy and Purpose

Iqra’a American School (IQAS) is committed to providing a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment in which all students are supported and their individual strengths are recognized and nurtured. We believe that every student has the potential to succeed when provided with appropriate opportunities, guidance, and support.

Our approach to teaching and learning is aligned with the Common Core State Standards, enriched through modern, student‑centered instructional practices. These practices are guided by four core principles of effective teaching:

  • Affirming student identity and building self‑esteem
  • Valuing and building upon prior knowledge
  • Scaffolding learning to support understanding
  • Extending learning to challenge and deepen thinking

Together, these principles ensure high expectations while addressing individual learning needs.

Learning Diversity and Inclusion

The IQAS Student Learning Diversity Group (SLDG) supports the belief that, with appropriate skill development, instructional strategies, and individualized support, students with mild learning diversities can be successfully included within the general education classroom.

Decisions regarding inclusion are made carefully and collaboratively to ensure a best‑fit approach for each student. This process takes into consideration:

  • The student’s academic, social, and emotional potential
  • The expectations and aspirations of parents or legal guardians
  • The school’s resources, facilities, and capacity to provide effective support

Our goal is to create an inclusive learning environment that promotes student success while maintaining the integrity of the academic program.

Partnership with Parents and Guardians

IQAS values parents and legal guardians as full and essential partners in the educational process. Their collaboration, communication, and commitment are critical to the success of students receiving learning support.

Parents and guardians are expected to actively support the school’s recommendations regarding individualized learning plans, in‑school interventions, or external services when deemed necessary. Through shared responsibility and open communication, IQAS and families work together to ensure that each student receives the support needed to achieve their fullest academic and personal potential.

Commitment to Student Success

Through inclusive practices, professional expertise, and strong partnerships with families, IQAS remains committed to supporting learning diversity in a manner that is respectful, responsive, and focused on student growth. Our aim is to empower all learners to become confident, capable, and engaged members of the school community.
